Five years after this "study", still nothing has been done to fortify the dikes. I oppose the discharge into the St Lucie estuaries but I can understand that there are risks associated with allowing the water levels to remain so high. Even with those high water levels, we have been under mandatory watering restrictions for several years now.

They are putting millions into at least maintaining but, yes a permanent plan would be nice.. The land purchase would be spendy and alot of people live so close but, a good solution. Billlions vs Billions.. ugh

I have a radical idea, evacuate everybody around the lake prior to a hurricane, ohhh wait they already do that? Again why do we pump all this water into our pristine estuaries? I have grown up watching the effects of all this fresh water being dumped into the estuaries, it makes me angry!!!

I know it's expensive but that will be a permanent solution. The best solution is always to go back to its natural stage. If you leave nature alone, it fixes itself.

Couldn't they just rebuild the dike? I know the Herbert Hoover Dike isn't nearly as impressive as the Herbert Hoover Dam...would it be as difficult and expensive to replace?
