This storm is at least 5 days off. I would agree with working on getting ready for it, but this could go any where at this time. It could be 25 knots or 160 knots. I'm not saying not to get ready for it, but declaring a state of emergency 5 maybe 6 days before it "could" hit is something I've never seen before.

Please don't get mad at me if you disagree with my feeling about this. I understand why, but just like putting this over a major city as a cat3 5 days off will make people less likely to take it seriously if its 100 miles in any other direction. I understand why you would get mad at this post, because it does take time to get people out.

This is just so he can get the authority to set the contracts in motion for busses and trains if need be. He had to do it. I, for one, find it refreshing to have a capable governor.

Yes I think Jindal made the right choice, considering what happened during Katrina. It's not an easy task to evacuate such a huge city and this time hopefully, if Gustav strikes N.O. everyone will be able to flee.

Hate to get political here -- but since you called him an lunatic and insulted his religious beliefs....

....he has more intellect, faith, common sense, and competence in his fingernail than 5 Kathleen Blancos or Ray Nagins could possibly have in their bodies.

He is not a lunatic, and actually understands and contemplates government and personal readiness -- unlike his detractors and the ones THEY voted for.

Put down your DNC Kool Aid.

Good to see the lessons from Katrina are being put into play. I applaud the governor for acting quickly. Even if it misses, it's better to be safe then have another Katrina type incident.

Nothing better than returning to an intact home after a successful evac drill.

Jindal did the right thing. I know it will be a few days till it will be clear if it is coming toward us but it will also be during a weekend, labor day weekend no less, and everything needs to be in place in the event it comes here. I hate it too, It is the "sky is falling" thing, people are hording food, water and such when it is days and days away and not really clear where it will end up. Hiring drivers for buses, getting contracts in line for the buses and such can't be handled well over the weekend. So, I say, Good Job Bobby, hopefully it will be all for nothing.
