South Florida Historical Lows

#1 Postby DanKellFla » Sat Jul 12, 2008 8:01 pm

It seems to me that the Summertime lows this year in South Florida are cooler than typical. I tried looking around the NOAA website for the data from a year ago, but had no luck. Does anybody know where I can find this informantion?

Select a station. Then select "Daily data for a month" on the left, and "Current month" on the right.

Now hit the "Go" button.

You can also get normals on that site by clicking "Daily Almanac" and then selecting the apporpriate station, month, day and year.

Actually, southeast FL has seen numerous record high overnight lows during 2008; the Miami and Fort Lauderdale airport sites have set multiple daily records and one monthly record. Lows have clearly been above average here.

That's what I thought. I knew I remembered reading AFDs stating exactly that.

I would think that any "cool" lows the original poster experienced were probably related to outflows from a nearby thunderstorm - I know they can feel quite cool. When it's 90+, a sudden drop into the low-mid 70s feels incredible. That's why I love thunderstorms so much.

The data really suggests the opposite is true....for the month of June, the avg low in Miami was 77.0, which was 1.8 deg above normal.

http://www.weather.gov/climate/getclimate.php?wfo=mfl

Fort Lauderdale had 5 record high minimums during the month of June alone...including a new record high low for the month of 83...set on 2 different nights! July has has 1 record high minimum...so far.

In June 2007, Fort Lauderdale had 0 nights that were 80 or warmer...in June 2008, there were 12!!!
