Katrina was annular meaning she was able to hold her CAT 5 intensity long she held CAT 5 status from 6:00 am sunday morning aug 28 to munday morning august 29 at 2:00 she made landfall as a CAT 4 at 6:00 am according to the NHC meaning she was a CAT 5 for 20 hours .your average CAT 5 can only hold that intensity for 12-14 hrs like Rita and Wilma did beacuse they were spiral hurricanes not the annular buzzsaw type Katrina was thus the surge had time to get rolling.Isabel was a CAT 5 for 36 hrs i believe.had Katrina been where Isabel was with that buzzsaw apperence she would of held it just as long
