Couple of little trees & some branches down is all the damage so far, though. Power is on, but it's out in parts of the neighborhood.

Looks like it is getting ready to get nasty in your area according to the streaming from CBS4. their radar shows the worst eindwise is in FL and Hollywood area along I95 and swinging around the center.

I think that strong band is staying west of me. Can't say I'm in the eye proper, but it's actually fairly calm right now, and the sky is quite a bit brighter to the east than any other direction.

Getting pretty gusty now. Neighborhood wx station reporting gusts of 41 but we just had a few that had to be in the 50s or 60s. I don't think that one has good exposure. Power just flickered a few times. My UPS shut down once and I thought the battery was dead but maybe it was a surge protection circuit bcus I manually shut down the power strip that feeds it and it's backing up the puter now. Wind is blowing power lines all over. Lots of surges. Lights getting pretty bright and flickering coinciding with odd noises from outside like power lines arcing. Maybe the wind is causing them to touch. Sounds like they're groaning every time we get a surge. Spoooooky.... stuff kids....ooooooooo

Looks like we have a definite eye structure now with storms to the NE quadrant looking better than before. The northern part of the eye is going to pass right over my city. X marks the spot.

Had a call about 20 minutes ago from a friend in Ft. Lauderdale. She is just west of the intercoastal not far from the 17th St. bridge. If there was an eye, she would be in it.

Power is out. She is in the hallway on the 4th floor of a five story condo building. She seems fine. Only in the hallway because there is emergency lighting there and her dog wasn't too thrilled with candlelight.

Well, by the radar, I'm right in the center of the eye right now. Nearly dead calm, still overcast but much brighter sky. No rain.

Good that means it's coming to me as well....just west of there. Still windy but not as much.

X-Y-NO, will the winds on the east side be stronger? I know this is a Hurricane 101 question....but with this storm who knows.

I'm thinking they may be. Certainly a couple of hours ago, the strongest winds were in the SE quadrant. Now they may be on the north side, but I still think the southest and east sides are stronger than the west side was.

I'll let you know in about half an hour to an hour. ;-)

I just talked to a friend in Coconut Grove: wind blowing hard, raining hard, power going off and on. Not sure thay had tied down their sailboat well enough given the current conditions.

Very windy and rainy. I'd guess we're feeling right now what we did with Jeanne.

I'm guessing it'll get worse. The wind is rumbling.

Power has flickered many times.

I'm in Coral Springs.

This calm in the eye is lasting a lot longer than I expected - has it slowed down?

Anyway, looks like I may have another half hour or so still before the back side gets here.

If NHC says the center is at 25.9 (I didn't catch that before), then it's currently in the area of x-y-no. I also have to consider the margin of human error in making these Google Earth overlays, so it could be off by a few miles.

The city of Miami is just missing the eyewall right now, but I imagine they'll get some of it in the next few hours.

Sitting here in the eye or center, waiting for the winds to shift. I have 985 mb on my gauge. Lots of fences and tress down. My power is back on for now!!!, but I am sure it will be out shortly when the otherside hits.

On the right side of the eye, rain has picked up and wind is now from the South Tropical Storm force and greater. It is bad out now, might have hurricane force gust. Things are flying everywhere. Still have power but transformers are blowing everywhere. The center of the beach just lost power. Blue flash WOW

Low-level clouds whipping by pretty fast now out of the SE. Still not so windy at the surface, though, and not a lot of rain.
