35 watching storms since I was 6..My Dad and Sister were both struck by lighting on two seperate occasions. They both survived, my sister barley and still has alot of problems because of it. So i keep a real eye on thunderstorms in the area. As a matter of fact this is the second time I tried to type this. Major lighting in the area knocked me off last time.

Turned 37 Monday when Dennis hit.
I was forced to be interested in weather..... ha ha.......
Been through many weather events... hence the name......
No matter where I move, severe weather follows me. Either in it, or very close (too close).
Eye of Frederic in 1979.
Elena Labor Day 1985.
F2 Tornado in Flowood, MS in 1987.
F4 Tornado in Brandon, MS in 1992.
Opal and Erin in 1995 after moving to Fairhope, AL.
Various Forgetful Tropical Storms and Hurricanes of little significance
I have learned that my magnetism works both ways. I turned my butt toward Ivan and Dennis, and both were repelled at the last minute.

I am 25, and first said I wanted to be a meteorologist when I was about two.... but lets just say that didn't exactly work out.
But I always loved severe storms....partially because tornado warnings meant I got to stay up late in the basement drinking soda and listening to the radio, partially because my father rubbed off on me, and partially because I just did.
I started watching the tropics in 2001, one year after I moved to the Houston area and just after Miss Allison reaked havoc on my neighborhood (damn, she was such a stinker!). I became much more phobic about tornados, tho - once I realized that Houston doesnt have any basements....

I'm 25. I've been tracking tropical cyclones since the '95 hurricane season, which, although I had been interested in weather long before (particularly in tornadoes), was what really made me decide once and for all that I wanted to study meteorology for a career. Now I'm doing it and can't imagine doing anything else.

I'll play..
21... been tracking tropical systems since 1994 (so that makes 11 years)...
I started college majoring in Meteorology, but was influenced by the family to switch to Accounting. I regret it during hurricane season... but I'm sure that later in life I'll go back to school and get my met degree...

24 here....been interested in tropical wx (and wx in general) since I was in 2nd grade. Well, that's my earliest memory anyways. I'm from Hampton, VA (not to far from Norfolk, VA) and can remember looking at satellite imagery of Hugo as it was nearing SC and being just amazed. Also being in VA we would get a lot of near misses from hurricanes/ts so I got use to tracking them and watching John Hope on TWC as as well as watching local mets in the area discuss possible impacts in the region.
Knew since 2nd grade that I wanted to do weather and now here I am a pro working in the field (received my BS degree in Meteorology Dec 2003) and loving it. Neat thing is my job actually deals with producing forecasts for different offshore interests throughout the world. So now I really have an excuse to watch the tropics 24/7.

A personal question.
57 years old and have been interested in weather most of my life, but after seeing a tornado from the inside in 1984, I became somewhat obsessed

It's fascinating to read many of your responses, and I am always surprised at how many incorrect assumptions I make about posters' ages and backgrounds.
I was born in Miami in 1956 and lived somewhere on the FL east coast for most of my life. I had a very traumatic crash course in hurricanes with Donna in 1960 -- my mother went into early labor during the storm, my father had to drive me 20 miles to my Grandma's house, the wind, debris, noise, etc.
For years, I hated the storms, but I finally overcame my childhood fear when David went through Central Florida in 1979. I've been fascinated ever since.

I'm 45 going on 25. I have been tracking storms since Camile in 1969. I was 8 years old and it scared me to death (almost) My dad told me that if I would learn to understand more about the weather it would not scare me as much. I followed his advise and he was right. Been hooked every since.

This has been an incredible post to read! 51, and grew up on the east coast of Fla...my Dad always made preparing for hurricanes fun and interesting, getting ready, going to the beach while it was still safe (oh the turtle watches, and checking on nests afterward) so weather always fascinated me. But no tracking until about 1990 when I met science geeks online who showed me how to *look* at what I was seeing. Then moving to the Caribbean 12 years ago, I really started tracking. Still ignorant of lots of technical bits, but learning so much here.
