Key West radar currently shows a due west motion over the last hour. I have the center at 24.8/83.1

I just noticed that the long-range loop from Key West is almost an hour older than the short-range also.

EDITED----

#46 Postby tronbunny » Fri Aug 26, 2005 5:36 pm

Could someone..much more knowledgable than I, please explain the phenomena in which a strong hurricane will move poleward, almost irrespective of synoptics?

-edit- It's called the Coriolis effect---

Here's a very complex mathematical interpretation that states that almost all intense 'canes will recurve at 30*N
http://www.applet-magic.com/hurricanepaths2.htm

maybe this is why a northward turn may occur soon....?

TIA

It *appear* on the weather underground 40 frame loop out of key west that the last 20 minutes or so have gone just a hair south of west, still a mostly WSW or WWSW or WWWWSWSWWWSW or something....

cheers,
loon

If she gets too far south, the steering currents to the north may have little to no affect on her. SHe could meander down there for a while  Then it would be a new ball game.

the long range and short range Key West NWS radar loops show two different directions but I've read the short range is more accurate...

Long range: Movement NNW
short range: Movement W

Clearly south of due west utilizing Key West short range radar.

This happens all the time and will likely happen again tonight when the visibles go dark and we have to rely on infrared.

Also for some reason, Key West Long Range is an hour behind the short range composite. ???

Not sure if anyone has utilized this site, but it has up to a 24 image loop on certain radars and also has some other amazing images.
