Judging from the Longboat Key observations the beaches are probably getting some higher NW winds off the water. The gusts with Jeanne are definately stronger than they were with Frances. The Florida power crews did a great job beefing up the grid after Frances but they are so overworked. If the power does go down it will take a while to restore.

I just talked to my son who lives in the area N of Courtney Campbell Causeway on Old Tampa Bay. They have been without electricity most of the morning. Not good news for him. The radio he bought after Frances doesn't work and all he has is a flashlight and a small transitor type radio. Wants to go to friends for football games but says it's too dangerous and getting worse.

Winds @ Longboat have backed further to wsw and dropped to 45 sustained. Pressure steady and looks like it's ready to start rising slowly. Looks like we've seen the worst wind wise, but a lot of rain coming down. N telling what kind of tail will develop over the GOM for our area as storm moves NW now about 70 mi or so to our NE. Hopefully, winds will continue to subside gradually over next several hours and the fPL guys can start trying to restore power.

In Largo, sustained 45+ gusting 60 or so. Some heavy rain but not lasting long. Winds seem to me to be stronger than Frances and coming at a little more west than with Frances based on the fact that I could stand on my porch and be sheltered. This time wind and rain hitting me standing in the same spot. Can't believe we still have power!!!!

As jeanne moves NW our winds will shift more and more. The early winds with Jeanne have definitely been stronger than Frances. It will be interesting to see if Jeanne can match the SW winds we had with Frances. Those were the winds that caused most of the flooding.

We are starting to get smacked!

Jeanne does not look like she is going to get out over the gulf very far so I doubt if she will reintensify. Hernando county will probably take a bigger hit than they did from Frances no guarantees about keeping power in Pasco county either but at least most of the dead wood was taken down with Frances.

Checking in again from Northdale. Still have power, direct tv, etc. Some gusts worse than Frances, but overall not all that different. I'm almost positive we're going to lose one side of our fence. I'll try to get it on video (from a safe distance!)

Worst part so far - my family is going stir crazy! Ah, well, thankful nothing worse yet...

Power keeps going out here in Feathersound, looks like I am running out of luck. Heard a big crash a while ago, think a neighbor had a tree fall.

Eek!

I just did a damage check at my grandmother's place on the water in Sunset Park in Tampa. Her dock has literally fallen apart, and there are pieces of it in the back lawn. I'm a little bit worried about the water coming up from the bay. For those who know about tides, can we expect a significant tide tonight in Tampa Bay?

Fox 13 in Tampa just reported that Dunedin's Scottish Towers lost its roof, forcing evacuation. I didn't hear any reports of injuries in this, their latest report.

Winds speeds over on the Gulf beaches. Does anyone know how strong they got?
We lost power at 11:00 a.m. and didn't get it back 'till midnight.
Feel totally grateful that we got it back at all.
Dive shop in Indian Rocks had it's doors blown out and flat roof blown off.
Lots of other roofing material littered Gulf Blvd from Indian Rocks to Indian Shores. Not a lot of signs blown down, but rather blown out.
Looking off our dock at our neighbors across the bay, the water level was about 1/2 foot from the seawall caps, but the waves were crashing into the yards.

Thanks. Well, knowing that, I'd say things don't look so bad considering.
I took digital's and will post links to them when I get the messy, storm weary house put back together. Incredible how messy a house can get with three wet boys and a wet dog running around in it.
Time to gather up the flashlights and candles and pack up the hurricane rubbermaid, yet again.

We had much worse winds with Jeanne than we did with Frances. The fortunate thing is that Jeanne tracked far enough north so we didn't get winds out of the SW coming up into the bay. That resulted in a lot less flooding than with Frances.

I live in Safety Harbor (near Clearwater) - no power since Sunday at noon - numerous trees uprooted and debris everywhere. Didn't mind coming to work today - there is power here! The cold shower I could have done without this morning though.....
