If this thing can pass through the poof test and keep its circulation. This could become a major player even if it is just a fish.

Wow that is a stunner, if it keeps going like that it may well be invested right from the off...like we saw with Bertha in 2008.

Wow, the whirling gyre has pulsed some convection. It's at higher latitude than the other waves this year. I think that could be good and bad for it.

Is there a good site to monitor conditions at Dakar, Senegal? I'd be interested to see if it already has a surface circulation as it emerges from Africa.

SSTs are not the be all and end all of development of course, but they are a crucial factor for early potential Cape Verde storms.

Here is today's SSTs

SSTs the day pre-Bertha rolled off Africa in 2008

A bit warmer now, but the wave might be at a little higher latitude.

Love the dopplar images Gustywind.

That is a mean looking wave looking to exit Africa. Sometimes they look worse on land than when they get to sea.

805 TWD
TROPICAL WAVE IS INLAND OVER AFRICA ALONG 18N5W 14N5W 3N9W. THIS
WAVE IS PRODUCING SCATTERED STRONG CONVECTION TO THE W OF THE
AXIS ACROSS WRN MALI AND GUINEA FROM 11N-16N BETWEEN 9W-14W.
SIMILAR ACTIVITY IS JUST OFF THE AFRICAN COAST FROM 5N-9N
BETWEEN 11W-16W. THIS WAVE SHOULD CONTINUE TO PRODUCE CONVECTION
AHEAD OF IT AS IT APPROACHES THE COAST AND SHOULD MOVE OVER THE
ATLC WATERS WITHIN THE NEXT 24-36 HRS.

Although the models are not developing this wave it really seems like a good candidate for a tropical cyclone, let's see what the models do with it once it is out of Africa.

I'm not so sure this will develop. It's awfully far north and there is alot of SAL out there...and it's so big it's probably going to actually drag some SAL out with its circulaton. My opinion is that it will be a collossal poof. Mainly based on climatology, I think that if it does develop it'll be a short-lived fish.

It looks fantastic inland...not even sure what to call it because it's more than just a wave IMO. Not tropical of course...just a storm. I should go find some weather stations in that part of Africa, if there are any that report regularly.
