You might be a hurricane nut if you mention hurricanes (Hurricane Katrina in particular) to your friends you have not seen a while as a world changing event.

If you were wishing you lived in San Francisco right now for these two winter storms they're about to receive, well, you are at least a wind lover...

Forecast:

Tonight: Periods of rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 47. Windy, with a south wind between 33 and 40 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Friday: Periods of rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 51. Windy, with a south southwest wind 42 to 45 mph decreasing to between 34 and 37 mph. Winds could gust as high as 70 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

True, true...All I'd need is the rain, wind, and 80 degree temperatures (give or take on those) with humidity, and it'd feel pretty close anyways...haha

Actually many hotels down the NJ shore do this (Especially in Wildwood). And believe me, then don't even qualify as immitations.

People speak different languages and have different cultures. One thing that transcends everything is that there are tropical cyclone, hurricane, and typhoon nuts.

You might be a hurricane nut if you are spending the early part of the year anticipating the Naval Meteorology and Operational Command HURREX advisories.

Or you might be preparing to participate in those HURREXes!

You've got it bad if you get a thrill from reading old storm advisories!

This one gives me chills:

ZCZC MIATCPAT4 ALL
TTAA00 KNHC DDHHMM
BULLETIN
HURRICANE ANDREW ADVISORY NUMBER 32
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
5 AM EDT MON AUG 24 1992

...ANDREW ASHORE NEAR HOMESTEAD FLORIDA...

AT 5 AM EDT...0900Z...THE CENTER OF ANDREW WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 25.4 NORTH...LONGITUDE 80.3 WEST NEAR TURKEY POINT
FLORIDA. THIS POSITION IS ABOUT 10 MILES EAST OF HOMESTEAD AND 25
MILES SOUTH OF DOWNTOWN MIAMI.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 140 MPH AND SOME WEAKENING IS
LIKELY AS THE CENTER OF ANDREW PASSES OF THE FLORIDA PENINSULA.
DURING THE PAST HOUR...A SUSTAINED WIND OF 115 MPH WITH A GUST TO
138 MPH OCCURRED AT THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER.

I do that. :uarrow:

I love to re-read the Epsilon advisories and watch the forecasters, specifically Franklin and Avila, slowly become torn apart.

"THE UPPER LEVEL WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE
HIGHLY UNFAVORABLE AND EPSILON WILL LIKELY BECOME A REMNANT LOW. I
HEARD THAT BEFORE ABOUT EPSILON...HAVEN'T YOU?" -Avila Dec 4

"AND WITH THE SOUTHWARD
COMPONENT OF MOTION CONTINUING IT SEEMS THAT AN IMMINENT
EXTRATROPICAL TRANSITION IS...ALAS...A LOST CAUSE." -Franklin, Dec 5

"I HAVE RUN OUT OF THINGS TO SAY...AND THIS ONE WILL BE SHORT.
EPSILON CONTINUES ON STEADY STATE WITH A RING OF DEEP CONVECTION
WHICH INTERMITTENTLY SURROUNDS THE LARGE EYE. INITIAL INTENSITY
REMAINS AT 65 KNOTS BUT A GRADUAL WEAKENING IS ANTICIPATED." - Avila, Dec 6

"THE END IS IN SIGHT. IT REALLY REALLY IS. BUT IN THE MEANTIME...
EPSILON CONTINUES TO MAINTAIN HURRICANE STATUS. " - Franklin, Dec 6

"I HAVE NO OPTION BUT TO FORECAST WEAKENING AT A FAST PACE.
NEVERTHERELESS...THERE IS VERY LITTLE CONFIDENCE IN THE INTENSITY
FORECAST." -Avila - Dec 7

And then came Zeta... They were not thrilled. The last sentence in the last discussion was awesome...

"SO... UNTIL THE 2006
SEASON BEGINS... UNLESS ZETA SOMEHOW MAKES AN UNLIKELY MIRACLE
COMEBACK... THIS IS THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER SIGNING OFF FOR
2005... FINALLY.

FORECASTER STEWART"

You might be a Hurricane Nut if you went out today and ordered a box of a dozen specially made "hurricane-shaped" chocolates for Valentine's Day for one's significant other, and being told they arent normally made but can be at a premium price, and you say go ahead and order them anyway.

If you look at white-powdered donuts during the off-season and cry... you might be a hurricane nut.
