Welcome WXspirit. Nice Katrina loop. It's a amazing that it had lots of dry air to contend with, but it ended up being a monster despite it all. Sadly, too many people died.

It's pretty fascinating watching Katrina pop out this big eye seemingly out of nowhere.

Darn it, man, my parents insist that I let their useless 100 MB programs run ON ANOTHER account, and there are some pages that just take FOREVER to load for me.

*raises hand* I have a few high res images to share with the class! (and when I say, "I have", it means, no one else has them, but me. Gotta love the CLASS archives!)

False color image of Bob.

I had to put it as a thumbnail, because the image is truly GIGANTIC.

False color image of Bret (orange flavored Gulf o_O)

I've got about 5 more, but I'll upload them later. Too lazy to continue.

Take a look at Bob, it's worth the load.

During the summer, you might know this (pardon my ignorance if you do), the wx satellites go into what is termed "blackout" for three hours every evening... most of those "jumps" you see are during those periods. Her eye became massive during one such blackout, but they are necessary...

and for another contribution... an animated gif of the entire 2005 season with Sea Surface Temperature overlays... check out the cold wakes of all the storms... Dennis is pretty impressive, Katrina really cooled the Gulf down, but as you will see, warmed up really quickly for Rita...

heres the front yard, down the street the flooding was so bad in a certain area that the water in the canal was flowing backward upstream
