BTW, just wondering if anyone else in NC has a weather station has noticed this or is it just a problem with mine. My weather station has shown dropping pressures for 2 days in a row now. I can't imagine it's the storm that far off from us doing it. Maybe we are due for some thunderstorms. KWIM

hmmm...dont know...havent really payed attention to mine recently...I'm down to 1012.0-1012.7 millibars, which is as low as the HIRT team has been reading in association with Ernesto
I dont know about the trends over the last two days though...I'll take a look at Cherry Point's AWOS there and see what they have...

Dont think its something wrong with your station...pressure at Cherry Point over the last several days has been falling:

Also, note the very top readings are the latest and the bottom are from two days ago...

I live about a half of block from the ocean--what are some thoughts about how high the wind will gethere--steve lyons seems to think the wave action could get bad northof wilmington--also the wind has picked up tonight--I know not from the storm but it is really hot and humid outide.

well...right now on the Crystal Coast it looks to be some rain and a little bit of wind, but down south near Wilmington looks to be slammed...we will probably see some bad wave action...but right now its all speculation, the track could still shift to us, dont get worried, but keep an eye on Ernesto...hoping for a 4 day weekend from school, but I doubt it...

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEWPORT/MOREHEAD CITY NC
927 PM EDT TUE AUG 29 2006
.SHORT TERM /REST OF TONIGHT/...CONVECTION MOVING ACROSS CENTRAL
NC HAS DIMINISHED AS IT RUNS INTO THE MID/UPR RIDGE BEGINNING TO
MOVE EAST. CONVECTION TO THE NORTH OVER SRN VA IS HOLDING TOGETHER
AND MOVING AROUND THE NRN PERIPHERY OF THIS RIDGE. SFC BOUNDARY
WELL TO THE WEST AND NW SHOULD CONTINUE A SLOW PUSH TO THE SE AS
THE RIDGE SLIDES OFF SHORE ALLOWING FOR MORE INSTABILITY TO WORK
INTO THE RGN LATE TONIGHT. SFC WINDS REMAINING AT 5 TO 10 KT
SHOULD KEEP MUCH FOG FROM DEVELOPING TONIGHT BUT LOWER CLOUDS
SHOULD BEGIN TO MOVE IN BY DAYBREAK. WOULD EXPECT SOME ISOLD
ACTIVITY TO BREAK OUT ACROSS THE NW LATE TONIGHT THEN BEGIN TO
PUSH EAST...BUT NOT AS EARLY AS ORIGINALLY THOUGHT. THEREFORE HAVE
PUSH BACK TIMING OF PCPN TONIGHT ACROSS THE RGN AND KEPT IT ISOLD.
WITH SOME WIND OVERNIGHT EXPECT TEMPS TO REMAIN IN THE MID TO
UPPER 70S SO HAVE MADE NO CHANGES THERE.

Just hope it's out of here in time for the opener for the WOLFPACK game Sat, night. Sat thru Dennis as it traveled over Raleigh in '99 for the SC/State game. Saw that Raleigh got 10 inches of rain out of that one. Have never seen it rain any harder or longer than it did that night. But we sat there and watched the good ole WOLFPACK do in those Gamecocks...........

Here's a link to USGS streamflows: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nc/nwis/current?type=flow&group_key=huc_cd&search_site_no_station_nm= The Tar River in Greenville is running really low, and thus has plenty of room for rain. If it really rains here there may be some localized flooding from downpours, but I'm not seeing any replication of the events of 1999 going on this weekend.

Rain Rain Rain coming our way so thought I would post these as a little reminder
“Rainfall sufficient to cause flooding does not necessarily require a tropical system to make landfall. Tropical remnants are as big a threat to life in some cases as hurricanes due to the rainfall and subsequent inland flooding." (Cline, J. W., 2002: Surface-based rain, wind, and pressure fields in tropical cyclones over North Carolina since 1989.)
"In the last 30 years, inland flooding has been responsible for more than half the deaths associated with tropical cyclones in the United States."
(Ed Rappaport, Deputy Director, NOAA National Hurricane Center)
Stay safe all
