I've seen pleny of birds out an about today - usually a sign nothing big is coming....now with Ernesto's WNW jog it appears these birds are again, and always right.

Wow, you guys in S. Florida have some pretty smart birds, lizards, and squirrels. That's pretty amazing that they can sense a 1007mb Tropical Storm!

Hey, if you can use animals for or against, because someone is bound to see animals and someone is bound not to, or at least say such, then its as I said, non falsifiable.

This is supersition. There is NO physical property that would distinguish this pressure wise from a cold front, and people have been demonstrated time and time again to draw correlations where there any.

I did see a bird walking in the yard today... sounds wierd, but before other FL storms, i have seen this... not much flying, but birds strolling along the bushes... just walking. Maybe looking for a safe place to hide. I even went out in the yard to take a look, and the bird still didnt fly away. Seemed strange. Then again, maybe he was just taking a break from all that flying and decided to walk.

Heres one for you...
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/lch/research/lalate20hur.php
The most curious aspect of the storm was the exodus of wildlife preceding it. On the evening before landfall, thousands of crawfish were seen fleeing the marshes around Cameron. A few enterprising locals decided to collect them and put them in their freezer, unaware of the significance of this event. Needless to say, these crawfish were never brought to a boil the following day, as planned.
Look under Hurricane Audrey...since we are talking about animals behavior before a hurricane I thought I would throw that in there...

Haven't there been two stories about manatees heading far up the east coast? I saw one story recently, but they said they weren't sure if it was the same single manatee that rescuers were following a few weeks ago.

Ah, heck...I'm going to search for the articles.

Here we go -- one in Boston (maybe he likes tea) http://www.timesargus.com/apps/pbcs.dll ... 004/SPORTS
and one in Rhode Island http://www.capecodonline.com/cctimes/rhodeisland22.htm

I don't normally put a lot of stock in the animal behavior thing, although I know there are plenty of stories, but, all day today I've had my sliding glass door open doing stuff in and out of the house and I haven't seen a single bird all day long. Additionally, I've seen one lizard outside all day, and it was on my plants outside. That's it. Pretty strange.....

My friend lived on the coast, north of Tampa. Her dogs would not stay inside the house when Ivan was projected to hit. When she let them outside, they all dug holes. They were obsessed with digging as deep as they could. One got to 6 feet deep before she really got nervous. She figured they knew something that she didn't, and she evacuated.
Of course, that area didn't get anything worth leaving home for. We were both surprised that the dogs were wrong.

That's what she gets for letting the dogs have access to the Internet. They were basing their holes on the 5 day forecast which was directed right at Tampa. :D

a much more interesting study would be that of the human mind and what/when it conveniently perceives.
