yeah, Andrew hit Eleuthra with 140KT winds and SFla with 145KT winds. It was one of the rarest of rare storms

Well, worst to me would mean most boring. So instead I will post my 10 best and interesting. They all threatened my area at one point, so that made it even more interesting.

2.Wilma
3.Ivan
4.Dennis
5.Isabel
6.Katrina

hurricane isabel never came close to hitting tampa...it was nevr even in the forecast for Isabel to hit Florida and go thru to the gulf

He is not referring specifically to threats to his area. He is referring to all hurricanes.

I would rank the worst hurricanes in terms of human suffering. Thus, Mitch would top my list. Andrew would not finish in the top 10 because it didn't kill many people. I remember Hurricane Inez back in 1966 killed many. Katrina is third.....MGC

Depending on your source, Inez killed between 1000-1500 people--directly; I've found some sources claiming Mitch as high as 17,000, but the vast majority seem to be around 9,000, highest death toll since the Martinique disaster that killed some 22,000 in the late 1700's. Didn't track Inez, but I heard an awful lot of folks died in mudslides in Honduras around that time-- Is that what you recall?
