Seems like Ernesto and Hermine are just wimpy names. They have both been the weakest TS in two separate years. In fact, there has never been a Hurricane Ernesto or Hurricane Hermine.

Bertha back in 2002. I stood on the beach a short 25 miles from the center of Bertha. The sun was shining and the winds were calm. We were under a tropical storm warning at the time.....MGC

Well... Ernesto is on the list next year. I agree, it sounds wimpy, but then again, so did Katrina.

The center of the storm made landfall pretty much on top of our apartment building back when we lived about 100 yards from the Gulf, and I can remember calling my parents saying "Hey, the hotel across the street from us is on CNN Headline News even though nothing much weather-wise is really happening right now."

Don't get me wrong, I'll take a lame storm any day over something more powerful, but Helene was impressively lame in her own special way.

While I see what you're saying about Helene, my honorable mention for wimpiest of 2000 was Ernesto. If Chris had gotten a hair stronger (which at first seemed possible), Ernesto would have likely had the wimpiest storm title.

Yet, I wonder about Ernesto next year......

Yeah, I really don't understand why Dennis is on this list... it was a Cat 2 (or high end Cat 1) hurricane in 1999. It made landfall as a TS, but a strong one, and it dumped huge amounts of rain over NC. It caused copious amounts of costal erosion and set the stage for the biblical floods of Floyd less than 3 weeks later.
