I was just looking at historical maps on Skeetobite to see how long Gilbert and the 1935 Keys Hurricane kept their Cat 5 status. I don't know about timewise, but it seemed like just a few hundred miles for each.

I think earlier senorpepr stated it has a lose gradient (whatever that means) but that would cause the wind field to expand more than likely.

Yep, I remember that post, too. That was before the pinhole eye appeared though, and the extreme pressure drop, right? I'm wondering if he'd still have the same opinion about it now. The old concept of the skater holding arms closer and spinning faster.

175 mph Hurricane force winds extend 15 mi out from the center that isn't very lose to me.Katrina/Rita on the over hand had Hurricane force winds out 100+miles

Hey Everyone,

Went to bed early this morning after the big drop wondering if it would break the record for lowest recorded central pressure. Got up this morning with that question answered. This is unreal and extremely scary. I know the projected path is over the southern half of Florida. Does anyone think it will drift farther north so that the entire conus covers Florida? Also does anyone think the cat status will be maintained or weaken?

when this thing goes through an ewrc it'll spread out....the hurricane force winds won't be so tightly wound around the center by the time it hits FL
