My shot is from a Canon 350D with an EF-S 17-85 F/4-5.6 at 17mm I think.

It's a 30 second exposure, I cropped off about 65% of the picture... so you are getting relatively close to 1:1 pixel size there... thankfully the camera has tons of resolution and is very relatively sharp :)

That is an awesome pic. Just set as my background. You don't mind if I use it, do you?

I just used what I had. An analog Sony video 8 camera. Then I transfered the images to my PC via my TV card (in real time-was 30 minutes of video).

Then scanned thru the video on the PC using the editor to find strikes. Not easy when ur editing in MPEG format bcus it edits in segments so if u use the scroll bar to scan thru the video for something as quick as lightning...u can miss a strike or 10 real easily. Basically gotta sit there and watch it all again then mark in and out points as I see lightning and add the segment then mix the segments together to make an edited video clip with just the highlights. Then while I'm watching the 3 minute final cut version I use the capture button to get a screencap of the video when I see something I want. To get it at just the right moment tho... gotta keep hitting pause, play, rewind and keep doing it until i get it at just the right point in the strike...then save the image and go back and do it all again to get the next phase of the strike. Sort of a PITA... OK REAL PITA...
But the results are cool.

Oh yeah....I also had to shrink the page and compress it 70% of original size to boot in order to get it on the photo host site. All that work...and it shows up grainy and with lost detail in order to get that whole image page on the web.

I do have a digital camera but I could never capture lightning with my old polaroid. Its several years old, point and shoot, Has too much compression, no manual settings, only 1.3mp and and as for speed... When I press the shutter release button....the camera thinks about what it wants to do for 2 or 3 seconds...then decides to snap the picture a second or two after that....HAHA!! I want to get a new CanonS2 or SonyH1.

NATE!! THAT PHOTO IS AWESOME!!!

I gotta look that camera up. Is it a digital or DSLR?

Found it! OK...explains the sharpness and lack of noise in the image. It is a DSLR.

I had been looking at the Nikon D70 but didn't really review DSLRs much since they're out of my price range. That Rebel 350 takes killer pics!
Good photographer helps too :P
