Soon it's gonna rain

#21 Postby jimvb » Sat Jul 09, 2005 8:10 pm

"Soon it's gonna rain" in the musical "Fantasticks". Also, "In Hetherford, Hartford, and Hampshire, Hurricanes Hardly Happen". By the way that's wrong. The New England hurricane of 1938 hit Hartford, CT.

Or change the lyrics of existing songs. Perhaps

"Everything's coming up canes"

That's too pessimistic. How about

"Everything's coming up fish"

Also, "Dennis in the sea with winds" (would work better with Hurricane Lucy), "Dennis Sea Waltz", "Keep it Coming, Wind", by the BeeGees, and so forth.

Also, I don't know what made Storm2k post my last message twice.

My Picks:

For when we are watching it develop: Moody Blues - Watching and Waiting

For when we know its coming at us and we are evacuating: Pink Floyd - On the Run

For when we decide to stay around and watch it pass over us: Pink Floyd - Good Bye Blue Sky

and finally for when we have spent 24 hours without any sleep riding it out and swearing never again: Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb.

Great suggestions!

I've also added these to my growing Cane playlist:

"Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season" - Buffett
"Miami" - Robin Aigner
"One Particular Harbour" - Buffett

And last year, while sitting in a steamy evac hotel overlooking I-95 on Day 4 of Frances, everyone was exhausted and watching convoys of utility trucks, National Guard, and other emergency vehicles stream into the state. Someone cranked up this song full blast and there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd. I will never hear this song again without recalling those feelings:

"Calling All Angels" - Train

LMAO, this became our family's theme song last year after Frances. All of us stayed during Frances (our entire family is here on the Treasure Coast.) But then Jeanne was coming and we all found ourselves humming/singing this wondering if we should take off. Too funny.

From the dark humor playlists of local radio djs when a storm looks to be moving in:

Its the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)- REM

"That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane -
Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn -
world serves its own needs, don't misserve your own needs. Feed it up a knock,
speed, grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height,
down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government for
hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies
breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered
crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population,
common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its
own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the
reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright
light, feeling pretty psyched."
