I live in southwestern California (3 miles from the beach) but I have family in Orlando, FL so I follow the tropics there in the Atlantic / Gulf / Caribbean closely as well.

Not all of NC is the Outer Banks, and in fact we could be regarded as having two seperate strike areas, the coast between the NC/SC state line and Morehead City - where the islands are yards off the mainland, seperated by the ICW; and the Outer Banks - where you can't see the mainland from the islands. Hurricanes generally affect one or the other, but not both.
