the reason why the damage in NYC would dwarf any other area (including an Andrew that takes out MIA and NO) is three fold.

1. The building codes are horrible that far north
2. The fact that it would be so spread out, meaning not only NYC, nut western LI, the Jersey Shore, CONN, and all of SNE goes right with it
3. The tidal surge would be even higher than those experienced in the Bay of Bengal with those severe cyclones due to the coastal shape
