Here and The National Hurricane Center. Some of the local stations here in Central Florida seem to jump the gun and try to create panic. Maybe it is to avoid complacency, which I guess is somewhat understandable.

It's a shame that year after year the NHC gets attacked only to be proved right in the end. You have to go with the best, after that here. If it's close NWSO Melbourne. Sorry no confidence in the local t.v. mets.

I think that's a loaded statement. Criticism of them is often warranted. As honchos, they can also bend and tailor forecasts to comply with previous forecasts or future ones. Occasionally they're good from far out, but there are numerous issues of legitimate criticism one can heap on the NHC. By the very nature of what they do, many "factual" statements have numerous other consequences.

My particular issue with them has to do with their forecast tracks 3-5 days out. My amateur and untrained eyes often see future errors in tracks they put out. Sometimes it's really obvious.

Nonetheless, I do spend a great amount of time going over the information they put out. I am greatful for their service.
