Yeah no doubt this one needs to be watched, has anyone got a map of the ITCZ right now?
I'd agree if it stays south then somewhere down the line it could be a possible system to watch for the EPAC/Caribbean, though thats still a very long way down the line.
Still a cool early wave thats for sure!

Re: Strong Tropical Wave in Eastern Atlantic
Since I posted the image early this morning until the latest one below at 2115 UTC,you can see that different from the norm when waves as soon they hit the water go poof, this one hits the waters in the overnight hours but has not gone poof yet, hmmm.

Yeah Cycloneye it is a little different, the system looks more like a typical late July/Early August type wave because the SST's are around that level plus its in a region of low shear and the SAL as others have said is a good deal further north for now and thus isn't inhibiting the convection.

Here is an impressive Modis image from early this afternoon where you can see clearly the dust to the north of the wave.

It sure does look impressive Brent, I think whats striking is it hasn't just totally poofed instantly. Convective coverage has decreased a little but it still looks quite potent.
Also those shear map is scary, we are in places 20-35kts lower then average and a decent part of the deep tropical MDR zone below 15N is below 10-15kts, not bad at all!
