I just want to say...our moderators have great, if not disturbing, avatars! The psychedelic moving one and the insect always distract me as an ADD adult! I love them, but also hate that they never fail to break my concentration when I see them! haha

Thanks Admins for your action regarding maintaining the site's integrity and reputation. I know an awful lot of lurkers that follow this pretty intently, along with JB's comments. And they have all commented on how good and usually grounded this site is in its general analysis and discussion points of storms. We continue to grow each day as a great storm-loving/hating community. :)

Yes, he made the corrections and posted them tonight and gave the correct site for 28 storms.

I knew he would post corrections. BTW, it is interesting that he must at least browse Storm 2k.

Indeed I did. He was very apologetic and we were trying to figure out how the mix-up occurred. In any case, it was an honest mistake and no harm done... I told him we did appreciate the shout out ;) even if it was in error. Very cool guy, and funny!

I agree, I've exchanged some e-mails with him before and IMO he's a pretty likable person, not to mention a great met.

My .02 worth, but frankly, I've never understood the desire to bring him down that some people seem to have.

I think someone even said earlier all in the name of paid subscriptions.

Even if that were a little bit true (and I don't think it was, just an honest mistake) I can't help but laugh a little...I mean he WORKS for Accu-Weather and they are a business trying to make a profit.

Unless you're in the public sector, we're all in a business of some sort trying to earn a buck and make a living.

Which unfortunately gets in the way of good science. IMO, JB would not be a bad fit for the weather channel or a major network full time, it takes away the private company turning a profit aspect, and he has the personality.

I say this as one of his harsher critics.

JB is not a bad guy, it is politics of the private sector that make things get out of hand sometimes. One up man ship is often what causes the blames, and to rack in new guys, you got to play the alarm and terror card "before" anyone else does.

Here's his apology:

TUESDAY I MISREAD THE 24-27 STORM FORECAST SITE!!!!

I think I am losing my mind, or at the least my eyesight.

The forecasters with the 24-27 storm total are known as Unapproved Site.com. Here is the link:

http://www.2010season.Unapproved Site.com/

I have added all 7 organizational forecasts to my blog today, let me know if there are more that I have missed.

In my opinion, here is one of the reasons that JB is the lightening rod that elicits so much back and forth on this board.
I give this opinion since I am one of those who takes shots.

It is not JB himself.
Well mostly not.
He does get blustery with some "I told you so's" but he is part of a paid service that also has to entertain for its money.

But having said that, he is a Pro and deserves to be, and is; very respected.
My problem is that "some" of the members of S2K take his word to be the word of "the lord".
They RUSH to point out when he is right.
They fail to mention when he is wrong.

It becomes a mantra to some to hold him to a higher regard, almost god-like and to disdain anyone besides him.
I take this as a slam at the many Pro Mets who participate in S2K who are experts too.
They, to me; are just as well-versed as JB yet, JB is held up as the "master"
I, for one; am bothered by this; so I call out those who do this.

So, I dispell the notion that people put JB down, I think it is the "holier than thou" attitude that some members push when they discuss him that ticks people, like me; off.

That's my $.02.

I recently exchanged emails with JB about forecasting styles, and really he says he just stands up for what he believes, which IMO is an excellent way to go about it if you're going up against official sources (don't want to blindly follow them)

Theres things I like about JB and there's things I don't like. I like that he's willing to if i may, yell "shark" before the Hurricane center in cases of rapid intensification (which the NHC is very cautious, sometimes overly cautious of in their forecasts). Also, he isn't afraid to disagree, and in a science like this, you need differing opinions.

What I don't like is that number one, some people seem to literally worship every word he says, I don't care who writes them, seasonal forecasts are to be taken with a grain of salt, and not every blob he points out is going to develop. Also, when it comes to those blobs, he's quick to jump the gun, on at least one occasion he's gone over the NHC's head and designated a system before it became official. (Felix in 08 I believe). I would not have a problem with that if he didn't post it as a TD on his maps when it was not at the time, misleading. I point out thunderstorms that should have TOR's out on them but I don't go to issue my own warnings. Also, he tends to overestimate intensity in some systems (I recall him mentioning that Katrina had 200mph winds back in 05 when it most certainly did not). Once in a while though, some of his forecasts can be downright insane (however he's FAR from the worst when it comes to overhyperd forecasting)

But as I said, in a science like this, disagreement is a good thing amongst people. That's how great ideas are born and new things learned.

Bottom line IMHO, he dealt with this in a very classy fashion. We all make mistakes.
