Looking at past memorable seasons...it hasn't been until the climatologic peak of the seasons...meaning august through october (some memorable activity has been in July...but that is the exception, not the rule)...that what made those seasons infamous and memorable took place in the tropics. If we get a hybrid or outlier system in May (unlikely) or June (still fairly unlikely), it probably won't be the 'defining moment' of the season ahead. On the other hand, if we don't have 4 named storms by June 30, there is no basis to issuing a 'season cancel'. Just take 2004....the first storm formed on July 31.

I thought I should bump this up. Since our first storm (may) form in 1st week of may if models are right.

LOL if it forms 1st week of May then I guess no 1 is right since that wasn't even an option

Given the current preseaon setup I'll go with late June, 21st-30th.

KWT wrote:Hard to call simply because there are always going to be the odd system that comes close in May and June even in slower years, esp given we are coming out of a El nino Spring and the jet should be quite strong and far south still which means the odds are there for a cold core system that changes to subtropical/tropical with time.

Well 90L was an attempt at that, wouldn't be surprised to see another attempt at that some point in the next 30-45 days before upper temps start to become too warm to really allow for such a transition to occur.

Just bumping this up...many folks already missed with their very early season guesses.
I was in the June 21st-June 30th group...let's see if it happens this week or holds off a little longer.

If nothing develops this next period (June 21 to June 30), 76% of us were off the mark!

Do you really think we'll make it to July 1st without Alex? I don't feel confident at all in my July 11-20 pick anymore.
