I am surprised that Jerry is a little larger than Chantal. From what I remember, Jerry was quite a small hurricane like Hunberto. Chantal on the other hand, it was windy and rainy all day.

Here's another comparison I made, removing all the pre-1988 storms due to poor data and adding more non-Gulf hurricanes. I have Katrina at FL landfall and over Gulf now. Added storms like Hugo and Luis. The values aren't necessarily the peak size of each hurricane, but I've weeded out any small ones that had just formed or were small because they were dissipating.

When Katrina hit on the Dade/Broward line here in Boca Raton we had 30 to 40 mph winds and we never lost power.I went out and got the mail as the eye was hitting 30 miles south of me. At that point Katrina was lopsided and all the rain and wind was on the south side of the storm.I don't think West Palm had any effects other than 20 to 30 mph winds.

I thought Boca Raton peak gust during katrina was in the 60's something like 67mph?
