I remember reading in one of the discussions that they didn't need to upgrade it to Cat. 5 to get more attention. It already had enough attention as it was. That says they probably could have upgraded it. I have a feeling it might be Cat. 5 come time for the re-analysis. On another note, why isn't Hurricane Beulah of 1967 ever mentioned for Cat. 5 hits? It hit right on the border.

Wow, that picture of Floyd is incredible! Just to think that such a powerful hurricane was so close to us in Florida. That definitely looks like a Cat 5, and looks just as good as Isabel or Ivan did.

The main thing I remember about Floyd.. was thinking.. "Oh my god.. that suckers' gonna destroy us" when I saw it that close..

Sorry to briefly break the topic, but I was just wondering whether anyone knew of a site that has a satellite loop of Hurricane Gilbert? Thanks

After much searching of the internet I finally managed to find a satellite movie of Hurricane Gilbert. It has a brief commentary with it.

Here's an old shot I saved from Mitch in 1999 showing an excellent double eyewall structure:
