it might be that your pressure is off, as you live in the hills and it is probably reading the actual sea level pressure, since your station is higher up it reads lower...because there is no way your current pressure is 995 millibars...BTW, my pressure is steady at 1012.5...NCWeatherChic wrote:Tstormwatcher wrote:NCWeatherChic wrote:Johnston County at I40/I95 Corridor

windnrain wrote:Tomb, where are you reporting from? You seem to be getting the worst of anyone posting on this board... and if you're in the storms path, good luck man... 45 mph is usually when power begins to go out.
I dont know how I can be having the worst weather. I'm up in Kill Devil Hills...and I'm just floored that I'm getting these conditions. The winds are just constant coming off the ocean. I believe it might be the pressure gradiant that is developing from the High to the north and the deeping Erensto to the south. I dont know if the aneometer is not correct that is up on the roof or what, but the wind is just absolutely horrible. I have nothing to my east, but ocean and that is where the wind is coming from. Nothing to block it.

Just got home from work and the winds are definetly picking up it has been raining steadily, We may have had gusts up to 30-35 mph, but I haven't experienced anything higher. I waiting to see how this goes as I am 4 miles off the ocean and 6 miles from the NC/SC line. I imagine the next 2-3 hours will be interesting.

Not much to report from Ladson/Summerville ...
Did pick up a heavy rain squall around noon time today and final tallies putting here just a smidgeon above an inch of rain and a some winds gusting as high as 30 mph a couple of times ....
A wave of low pressure developed along the trough and I believe that caused the sudden shift in which made my original forecast track off by 70 miles to the east.

that is where Max Mayfield said he thought it would make landfall ( about an hour ago) and he was worried about storm surge and flooding. Be safe!

tornado warning
a tornado warning has been issues for carteret country--(the county I live in)--this is the second warning in the past few minutes--so many people are so complacent about the storm--they are just saying it it a tropical storm--but they need to realize it is almost a cat 1 hurricane--Ilive aobut a half bock from the ocean--and the rain is relaly picking up now

Persistent rain here in Durham, NC all day. Every couple of hours or so, it'll come down in buckets for 5-10 min. Classic tropical-style "dense" rain...tremendous number of small drops very close together.
As I speak, we're getting another one of those squalls again. The sky will darken, and about five minutes later it'll open up.
In between squalls, it's a light pitter patter, almost a mist. Air is so thick with moisture that windshield wipers only serve to smear the moisture around the glass...it doesn't evaporate off.
Not much wind to speak of. I'd say ENE at around 10 mph or so.
All I can say is...it's good to be back in the South and not in CA anymore. I'd missed this type of weather immensely.

We have gotten about 2.25 inches in the past 2 hours, and no sign of letting up. Hurricane warning expires in about 10 minutes.
