A season I really miss John Hope

#1 Postby lacyclone » Sat Jul 09, 2005 11:40 pm

I can't help thinking that I really miss John Hope and the way he used to explain things. I know he would have really loved the challenge of this storm, and of this season to come.

I remember sitting in front of the TV as a kid watching Andrew headed or way. John Hope was amazing. He knew so much. He taught everyone a lot about the storms and how the big ones can defy all odds.

I remember him telling Jim Cantore to listen to the nbirds when he was in the eye of a NC Hurricane several years ago.
Cantore was so freaked out when he actually heard them and we were all so impressed with how smooth and informative John was.
I remember him here at the NHC when I was a kid....
The best ever.

I enjoyed his slow talking and easy explanations. He didn't get all excited and talk ninety miles an hour. Some of the ones I've seen get so excited and trip over their tongues and you have no idea what's what.

He actually explained the models and their future paths and tropical updates were 5 to 7 minutes long. Now its a joke. I know I'm preaching to the chior.

I always liked how he'd wrap up the tropical update by saying "And that's the tropics for this time!".

He died a few months before Andrew was upgraded to a Category 5. I wonder if he knew Andrew would be upgraded.

He definately is missed, and his vast amount of knowledge would be great during a year like this.

Miss you John.
