Insects of all kinds can definitely become trapped within hurricanes, and deposited far from (their) home. Also, other creatures. Tornadoes sometimes cause frogs to rain down.

Ivan is being blamed for bringing in a soybean fungus (rust) that was first seen last fall. The thinking is that it was brought in from South America. Farmers this past spring were told to be on the lookout and ready to spray this summer and fall.
