Very Interesting! N.O. Mets and Dennis!

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

NO, they really don't and they're constantly talking about it. They have no idea how to get everyone out of the city who cannot evacuate. They talk about using the public transportation system to bus people out of the city, but they say that's no where good enough.

You know, I've been thinking about this. Since the city will fill with water, the RTA is going to want to get it's fleet of buses out of the city, I would think. So, while moving your bus fleet to higher ground, fill them with people. Seriously, this would kill two birds with one stone.

Yes it would, but it would still leave thousands stranded. Could imagine the mass hysteria if the public was told they needed to get on buses to get out of the city, then once they were there all the buses were full and there was no other way out? It would be like that scene on "Titanic".

Then theres the problem of where do they go?
They say it could take up to 6 months to get the water out with pollution chemicals etc. it would be worse than a cesspool. The problem then becomes were to house 1.5 =- million people for that length of time.

The fundamental problem with N.O., like so many other places, is that some places just aren't suited for human habitation (or, at least, not suited for much in the way of population density, given our current technology).

Unfortunately it seems at times that A) these kinds of places are the most attractive places for business, industry, and housing, and B) there's no realistic means to prevent people from living somewhere solely on the basis of a possibility that, at any given time, is remote. And that's not a crazy calculus for most people: I know (for example) I'll live a lot longer *with* food on the table and a roof over my head than without these things. I, too, even sitting here next to a wall covered in an array of hazards research/ emergency management credentials, would rather go to a place where I could find a job over somewhere I'd starve but be statistically safer from an unlikely harm.

Good luck to the EM guys down there. It must be an awful job.

Was it "Oil Storm"? I didn't watch it but vaguely remember some previews of it.
