HAHAHAHAHA, i just realized something incredibly funny.

#1 Postby ericinmia » Tue Jun 28, 2005 3:00 am

Ok its 4 am and i finally had a moment of clarity and intelligence that i have been searching for all day.

My Davis Vantage Pro Wireless weather station that i have had for a year all of a sudden today stopped sending any signal. I have a repeater event though its not needed, and i know their was no interference. I messed around all afternoon looking for the cause.

I googled the internet for it, i called davis who offered to replace the battery as a starting point... and now i have finally figured it out.

The solar panel recharges a "superCap" that allows the unit to retain a charge for about 7 days of use on average.... with no additional charging. I realized now that becuase of the NON STOP RAIN in miami. The unit has slowly been fadding out the past couple weeks. There has been that little sun, that my poor weather station has died, temperarily at least. :(

Well its too late to go out there... tommorrow i'm going to get another little lithium battery to power it. This rain spell seems that it will never stop. I'm starting building an ark if anyone wants to go in half and half. lol

Thought you all would find this funny :)
Have a good one...
-Eric

BTW. I was about to do the annual maitanance on it, so that its ready for the season ahead. ;)

Thats funny. I know how you feel. One time somebody stole some fuses from under the dash of my car. When I wen't to crank it, it would not fire for nothing. I worked on that car all day. Finally after almost giving up I looked under the dash and four fuses where gone. I was mad.

It did. My wife thought it was the funniest thing ever though. Come to find out it was my cousins that took them. When I asked them about it "oh we was just using then to go get us some" .

LOL, yeah....

I had to stay home with a plumber, and i noticed around 9am that the station was back up. We finally have a "little" sun!!! :) Its still VERY cloudy though.

Time to run to radio shack for the battery.
