Should Tropical Storm Watches go up for the FL West Coast?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Should Tropical Storm Watches go up for the FL West Coast?

#1 Postby TreasureIslandFLGal » Fri Jun 10, 2005 10:11 am

Can we expect to see Tropical Storm Force winds along the Florida West Coast?

Once this storm passes to the north, will the "wrap around" increase our seas significantly? Can we expect any coastal erosion or flooding?

I think we ought to check when high tide is on the island tonight. :(

Treasure Island is only 4 1/2 feet above sea level at its highest... therefore even minor flooding issues are major for us!

Maybe some gusts, but otherwise no.

I would be concerned(a little) with coastal flooding plus flooding from rains.

Dropping the ball

#4 Postby slowjoe » Fri Jun 10, 2005 10:14 am

I think they are dropping the ball by not issuing anything for the florida west coast....especiialy since most of the convection is on the east side of the system.

I'm afraid that with all the action to the north and east of the center, we could get a good wallup in Pinellas County. Then, to add to that, if the center is relocating under the convection, things could be even woolier!

I was doing some rough calculations, and according to the NHC, in 12 hours, the center will be at 26.2, 85.9. That puts it appx 360 miles offshore WSW of us. So if it sticks, we shouldn't see a bunch of stuff other than rain and gusts.

Someone correct/verify the mileage plz?

Melhow, is that with the center that is exposed or the hypothetical new center that may be developing that people are discussing here -located under the convection?

That is the forecast center according to the NHC. Even if the center did relocate, like, 200 miles east, we would still be just out of range of the TS force winds which extend appx. 150 miles east of center.
