Docs: Hurricanes Behind Florida Baby Boom

#1 Postby chadtm80 » Sat May 14, 2005 2:37 pm

Alot of long boring nights down here during the canes.. lol

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Some doctors are attributing a recent baby boom in Florida (search) to the three hurricanes that hit the Sunshine State last summer.

One health official says there are more than twice the number of parents-to-be in her birthing class. And another says she has 51 expectant mothers due this month and 43 more due in June, up from an average of about 30 per month.

One set of parents admits that the numbers are no coincidence. The couple says it, too, was stuck at home with no electricity and ended up getting pregnant.

OTOH, hurricane season causes me to sit up half the night staring at sattelite images and model data on the internet - which is hell on my love life.

Some friends of mine are having their first baby this week. MMMMMMMM do the math - mid August (hurricane Charley) to mid May = 9 months   . They lost power for 2 days due to Charley. Wonder what they did with no tv, internet ect.

P.S. It is going to be a boy (hope they do not name it Ivan  )

Charley is a cool name. Looking back, it always seemed like a nasty name:

I guess it would have to be after the storm when the power is out because while the actuall cane is hitting my mind is 100% on the event itself & really don't wanna get busy @ that time.

Allthough during 48+ hour events like Frances there is time for some lovin.. :D

I know this, there's several 35-36 year old ladies on the MS Gulf Coast
named Camille. Wonder why? :)
