anxiety
With Hurricane season quickly approaching the anxiety of what may happen or not happen starts to build up. Livivng in Florida and looking at all the people with blue tarps on there roof is heart breaking espicially since the season is so close.

Wow ... take a deep breath and relax. No sense in fretting at least until the hurricane watches go up.
Do take a look at cycloneye's "basic preparations" thread above and follow suggestions. It's a lot easier to feel sanguine about things when one has prepared.
And stick around! Things really start jumping around here once the season gets into swing.

Yes, I do have alot of anxiety. I have a house in Boca Raton and Palm Beach County was luckily spared last year. But if you look at history, especially during the "active periods" that we are beginning to go into, Palm Beach, Broward, Dade, and Monroe (FL Keys), get hit by major hurricanes more frequently than any other countys.

once you have personally experienced a hurricane, it is normal to have a certai amount of anxiety in anticpating the beginning of hurricane season.
that is why I take excpetion sometimes with some of the posters here who get so excited and are shouting "bring it on"
I never want to "birgn it on " actually.
at the same time, the best way handle that anxiety is to make sure you are prepared and have done all that is necsesary in case somehting does come your way.
but, no matter what, from June to Novemeber, we in the islands wait and watch and hold our breath and cross our fingers and toes!

The season has yet to begin. The patterns right now have little or nothing to what may occur in June-nov. I will start watching the patterns in June and July. Then we will know more. At any rate, It's a good idea for anybody living on the coast to be prepared in case a storm comes your way. Better to be safe than sorry!!StormChasr wrote:This coming hurricane season may be active, but it will be nothing like last year, as the patterns are already different.

I could not agree more. Excellent advice. Charley taught me all about surprise last year.

Better to leave for no reason than to stay when you should have leftMGC wrote:I only have the dreaded anxiety feeling when for example, a monster called Ivan is a day away and you are having the fight or flight decision to make. My level of anxiety grew the closer Ivan got. Heck, June first, the first day of hurricane season is no big deal.....MGC

anxiety
Living in Melbourne Florida sure proved to be a challenge last season!!! Yes, there are still tons of blue tarps on roofs....glass signs have not been replaced and some ball fields are still without lights. But living through the experience last year, I found that the biggest cause of anxiety... for me and most I know was ...do I prepare or dont I...I spent many an afternoon sitting in Walmart parking lots thinking do I or don't I. After using up supplies during the first hurricane it really was a challenge to restock. But, there was no excuse for my lack of preperation for storm #1....My BIGGEST mistake was not preparing for the HURRICANE SEASON in advance. The previous poster was correct...when properly prepared the anxiety tends to be a lot less. The only decision becomes..leave or not. My advice to everyone is to make sure your kits are restocked...have water, tarps, batteries etc. and lots of extras. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best and your mind might rest a little easier!!!
