Lots of Dry Air in the Caribbean, SSTs rising
Anybody notice how much dry air there is from the caribbean east to the Aftrican Coast. All this mean is that the sun is doing it's work to warm the waters. Is this normal by the way? There's not a cloud from Jamaica East to the east coast of Africa!

As far as thunderstorms go, this time of year is usually pretty quiet in the tropics. I think it's fairly common for there to be a big upper ridge in the Caribbean this time of year. Interestingly it seems just the opposite in the summer. The TUTT likes to set up across that area. All that dry air and subsidence keeps convection to a minimum right now.
