I still have these visions of giant tampons floating on the ocean's surface after Dyn-O-Crap does their thing.

Like it or not, I think you're going to see more calls for research like this. Most people in hurricane regions would want something that would weaken hurricanes if it were available.
However, the long term damage we could do by messing with nature has to be addressed. The Cat 4 or 5 hurricane we deal with today becomes part of some system over Europe in a couple of weeks. If we weakened that storm, and kept doing it over and over again, how would that affect those European systems, not to mention all of the systems that follow after that? It's all one big cycle up there.
Long term, what about crop growth? Potential for droughts and flooding? Ocean currents? I don't think we're ready to tackle this yet. I'm all for scientific advancement, and I think it's great that we are making progress, but this borders on reckless. This could be the next A-bomb.

The goal is for insurers and govt to control our weather, not to mention the political and most of all environmental implications. Scarier than terrorism, man.
The Jupiter, Florida-based company eventually hopes to sell its patented idea to the reinsurance industry — companies that provide insurance to insurers — and governments if it has any impact on subduing hurricanes, Dutton said.
