Could it be because the Sat is not directly over the Cane's eye? Like when your speedometer in your car shows 60 but your passenger sees 55 due to angle?

Hi Clint - could you give a layman's version of how that shortwave might impact Ivan's movement?
Yeah if the shortwave low pressure trough over Texas were closer to Ivan there would be no chance of a nnw movement.
