I'm quite sure that we haven't yet nailed the final totals from Charley and Frances, yet alone the impact of Ivan and any other hurricanes this season.
Children have had multiple "first days" of school this year. They have lost homes, pets, and their security. So many industries have really not yet been counted in the fiscal damage info ---- aqua culture (tropical fish, oyters, fishing guides, etc. etc.) Many, many turtle nests have been destroyed (thank god for an early. productive hatching sesaon -- what the heck did they know early on that we humans didn't yet know?)
FL residents will pull together and we'll be Ok. But this active and destructive hurricane season comes too close on the heals of the tourist hit we took from 9/11.
Once this hurricane season ends, hopefully there will be a board "sticky" with comprehensive info on how to contribute to the many hurricane relief funds across FL and the Caribbean!
FLA's fiscal & sustained emotional "hit" is...
