TWC Ivan Coverage

#1 Postby wlfpack81 » Tue Sep 14, 2004 12:47 pm

Is it me or is anyone else becoming kind of upset with the TWC just focusing on FL so much when Mobile, Al is in the path of this storm too not to mention that there's still a chance places like Biloxi, MS will get a good hit from this storm. They have mets places in Cedar Key and Pensacola but right now it appears to me their shafting Mobile, Al and given the current track thinking you'd think they have a met there reporting live and giving updates on what the city is doing to prepare. Additionally I thnk they'd have someone in Biloxi and maybe even New Orleans, La doing reports on initial prepartions being taken in case Ivan jogs a bit farther w-ward.

It's almost like since Fl has been in the news so much with the other 2 'Canes TWC wants to capitalize on ratings by talking Fl up soley. I know the Panhandle is going to get a good whooping from this storm too but right now s-ern Al is the bullseye for this storm and would see the worst damage at this point.

Thoughts?

My dad was just talking about this. He's saying if the path even touches the Florida line, the focus will all be "FLORIDA GETS HIT BY 3RD HURRICANE" etc. and Alabama will barely be talked about.

A lot more Yankees have relatives in Florida than Alabama. It's sad to say, but national news is geared to viewers along the Northeast Coast.

Already had that thought. They

have been to Point Clear, AL, which is in Baldwin County, but as far as I know, not to Mobile. They should be sending someone to Mobile, Biloxi and New Orleans.

Then again sending TWC folks over here won't help us any.

The big bad battleship behind cute Steph is the ALABAMA.
It's in Mobile, ALABAMA.
They pre position and then storm keeps moving west.
Steph was tampa bay and Cantore below her a couple days ago when prediction was mid central west fl hit..
Now they are moving west.
They will have folks in NOLA by end of day.

Hey I'm not knocking TWC b/c I love them unlike some but I just though given the fact the bullseye had been pointing at Mobile the last few days that they would've start doing broadcasts from there.

I know TWC isn't gonna do anything to deflect the storm by reporting there but still it'd be nice to hear reports on what kind of preparations are going on there not to mention giving fair coverage to that area.

I think the reason is because they believe Ivan will curve east in the north GOM.

Well that doesn't explain TWC, the forecast shows that "if" (and I stress) it does curve NNE, it would hit directly at Pascagoula, which believe it or not, Pascagoula is NOT in FL

i just saw the Yahoo headline... " Residents in
Florida, Louisiana Prepare to flee Ivan"

it's all dollar driven. They make more money
if they can keep the viewership up. That a fact.

For whatever it's worth, the steering pattern has remained about the same for at least the two to three days: Gulf of Mexico Steering Currents

Also, water vapor imagery continues to not indicate an established SSE to NNW and/or S to N flow -----> Gulf of Mexico Water Vapor Loop
(although not as 'bad' as last night and the last few days; however the steering pattern [link above], will have to change fairly soon).

I guess an Alabama/mississippi landfall is just not "sexy" enough for national news.

TWC is too vanilla for my taste in weather.
You can and do get much much more indepth info from the internet.

TWC is geared to make money not cover the weather in depth.

They suck! They NEVER EVER have cared about people in Louisiana or hurricanes hitting here.

I'm a little disappointed in their coverage of the Cayman Islands. They were pretty much savaged by all accounts, but I only hear about Jamaica and Cuba. Granted not many reproters have seen the island because the airport is still closed, but the AP has mad some reports on the Caymans. Not even the BBC World News covered it last night, and the Caymans is a British colony. Oh well.
