Cat5 Duration Question

#1 Postby clearwater » Thu Sep 09, 2004 3:21 am

I saw someone mention this info earlier, but I was skimming and can't remember which thread it was in -- what's the longest a hurricane has maintained a Cat5 standing?

I believe isabell had it for almost 3 days... however that is a shot into the dark recess of my head late at night... :(

I know she was also on and off the cat5...

In a perfect environment (hot water, no shear, not going over land mass) can a hurricane get so intense it blows itself right out (i.e. unable to maintain itself due to physics constraints)?

Since most or all weaken due to interaction with other things such as those mentioned above...just curious to hear some thoughts/knowledge about a ginormous storm.
