Of the storms so far, which do you think will be retired...?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Do they count Countries outside the US for Retirement? I know its bad for these areas to get hit by a major but they seem to have much less damage when hit--like they are used to it and have far better building codes than the US when it comes to canes. Just wonderring

I didn't know that about Frances.

Definately Charley and it depends on where Ivan hits and at what strength before I make up my mind about Ivan (like everyone else  ).

Yes. I can think of just a couple from 1995 that hit the Leeward and Virgin Islands and were retired: Luis and Marilyn. Iris(2001) was retired and it hit Belize, never touching the U.S. Mitch hit as a Cat 5 down in Central America and killed 10,000 and was retired. When it got to Florida it was only a weak tropical storm.

I'm sure there are others...

yeah,

Juan was retired for Canadian landfall and at least half of the hurricanes that have been retired are for non us landfall events

It is the WMO (United Nations) that retires the names, not the USA

Yes. See ColdFront77's post above. If it affects nobody (or hardly anyone) and causes little/no damage, it will not be retired.

Actually, Frances was retired before the season started, thanks to France.

Charley and Frances would be obvious. This has been a very chaotic hurricane season to say the least. I have a bad feeling in my gut about Ivan because of that. However, I and no one else knows for sure what it will do.
