After Andrew, here in TampaBay, we saw a huge influx in population as many had to relocate either temporarily or permanently. Many locals also assited in recovery efforts. We were lucky then and had minimal impact from Andrew. Seeing the possible paths right now, we may not be afforded the same "convenience" as then. All of Florida needs to prepare for big changes, whether they get hit or not. Stock up on necessities in case your "minor" outage may last for days instead of hours due to lack or repair crews. Make plans with yoru family members throughout the state in case you need to relocate or they do to your location. Have family members that you can contact outside of the state that can be your communication center to be sure everyone is ok when lines go down. -this helps greatly just to know everyone is safe after the storm, even if life is tough for a while.
Be prepared to help others soon. If you have an extra room that you are using for storage, clean it up. You may need it soon to host a friend who becomes displaced. After Andrew, there wasn't a hotel room free or anywhere to rent in the Tampa Bay area for months. Housing becomes critical.
The great news in all this? Once again, we will show the whole country just how generous, resourceful and strong we all are here in Florida. We will help our neighbors and ultimately rebuild no matter what happens.
Stay safe and prepare everyone. -and don't forget to breath and sleep no and then over the next few days. We are all going to need our strength very soon.
