Actually, it's called "west by north".

also to note...

You can view the strong ridge building behind the front here:
it is the little brown south-west oriented gouping of wind flags from LA and AL up through TN and into the great lakes region... watch this carefully!

This will tell you what is happening before the news mentions it.

Was the WNW move temporary and a westward movement continues as we speak?

Its yet to be seen....

The storm is supposed to continue a wnw track... but too many of these west wobbles, and their duration, and we could see this track dip even further south.
