As the outflow from the storm moves out from the storm, it eventually descends and forms a subsidence inversion which traps haze and aerosols below giving the sky a yellow cast. The same happens with an approaching Supercell as there is usually already a subsidence inversion ahead of it which forms the cap of the low level layers. The fact that the subsidence is occurring means that the outflow mechanism of the storm is well developed.

So what time are we expecting our visitor Gaston? Will I have time in the a.m. to make preparations, or it too late?

Cool! I never knew the specifics. Just knew what I've observed in the past.
Since the sky turned yellow in Charleston, then Gaston must be strengthening.
Great......

TLHR, I am relatively new here. Lived most of my life in the midwest and never paid attention to hurricanes. So the idea of a hurricane season is new to me and I am just learning. So that is why I keep asking all the stupid questions. Thanks for the advice about not waiting until tomorrow. I may go ahead and go.
Stormsfury, your site is great! Thanks for the link. I remember you were a help during Bonnie and Charley.

Gotcha! Sorry. should not have assumed.
Go to the supermarket and get a flashlight and batteries if any are left. Get water in any form possible, even if it's in single serving bottles. Buy food and snacks that don't need refridgeration like apples, bananas, canned tuna, crackers, etc.
Buy some paper plates and plastic silverware. If power goes out, which it probably will, you will not be able to do dishes.
If you cannot buy a flashlight and the necessary batteries, go to Target or Walmart and buy glow-sticks.
Hope this helps!
