Frances' distance from Miami and your requests

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Fri Aug 27, 2004 7:58 pm

As of the 5:00 PM Eastern Time advisory on Hurricane Frances, the center of the storm was approximately 2,080 miles ESE of Miami,
Florida. This location is also 2,240 miles ESE of my location.

I will be more than happy to calculate the distances of other locations, which of course doesn't necessarily have to be your location.

The center of Frances is also about 2,080 miles ESE of Miramar, FL; beings that it is only 10 to 15 miles north of Miami.

Good idea Tom.... How about the official NHC forecast position as of the 11PM advisory valid

120HR VT 02/0000Z 23.5N 70.0W 115 KT

The distance from Miami (probably the closest point to Frances)

The distance from St Augustine

Dave, what is wrong with me wanting to do this for those that are interested?

The 11:00 PM EDT position is about 1,360 miles from the 120 hour forecast position.

This position is also approximately 2,160 miles from Saint Augustine, Florida.

Thanks Tom--we can count down the distance on the board as the storm gets closer or hopefully eventually away--nothing wrong with that IMHO

You're welcome Jeromy. Absolutely right, this should be an important part of the monitoring of Hurricane Frances.

I believe Dave thinks that those that are interested should figure it out themselves using the link he provided above. Using my Streets & Maps program as part of my participation in the board is a great tool for discussion of the storm and future storms.

I do indeed thank you for the site, Dave. I know these 'calculators' exist.
