When the tropics heat-up they heat-up. The Gulf swirl definitely needs to be watched closely, they have favorable conditions plus boiling waters.

There is a VERY weak low in the Gulf, with almost no convection around it. The best pressure falls have been east of FL, but the midlevel vortex has dissipated. There is some indication of cyclonic surface rotation in this location, although if its there it's very weak. The band of convection will have to expand this afternoon and overnight if there is to be any chance of development here. Also, the weak upper low over the FL peninsula favors development east, not west, of the state.
