7:00 AM CDT ATLANTIC BASIN TROPICAL UPDATE
FRIDAY, AUGUST 20, 2004
Tropical Storm Danielle continues to weaken and meander in a Northeasterly direction in the Eastern Atlantic about 780 miles Southwest of the Azores Islands. Danielle continues to only be threat to shipping.
A tropical wave currently crossing the Cape Verde Islands has a well defined low level circulation directly over the island chain with a central pressure of 1012mb. Although there is little convection associated with this system it has begun to develop to the Southeast of the center. Development if any will be slow to occur.
A tropical wave located about 420 miles East of the Windward Islands is moving West at 20 mph. Convection associated with the wave is outrunning the axis of the wave and will begin to spread over parts of Venezuela and the Southern Windwards today.
Elsewhere in the Atlantic Basin no tropical storm development is expected through Saturday.
