Miss Mary wrote:Wainfleeter - welcome also!!! I'm glad you've decided to post. My family vacationed 2 years in a row in Canada (mid 90s). We loved it up there. Went to Barrie, Huntsville, Bracebridge (Santa's Village, our kids were 4 and 7 then), drove thru Sudbury and Sioux St. Marie (took the train to Agawa Canyon). The next year it was Hunstville again (we have our pics on an ice cream shop's wall up there!), Ottawa, and Quebec City. We've talked about going back someday.

Thanks Mary,

If your ever in the Niagara Penisula area, drop me a PM here. My husband and I will go touring Niagara Falls with you. We are only about 40 minutes from the falls. Wainfleet is west of Port Colborne. We live across from Lake Erie in the country. Nice and quiet. :D

We did visit Niagara Falls but had a very frightening experience there. Hence, why I guess I didn't mention it. Our first trip up your way started in Buffalo, one night stay there and then on into Canada after a brief visit to the Falls.

I posted about it once, maybe I'll dig it up. Drains me everytime I talk about it! My worst nightmare nearly came thru - our kids were almost kidnapped there.

Mary

PS - found it!

Friends have told us we need to go back to Niagara Falls, since this is the only memory we have of it - a terribly frightening memory.

Mary, how frightening!!!!!!! Was this on the U. S. side or Canadian? I think I am understanding it was before you crossed the border into Canada. :(

I am sorry you had such a horrible time and these rotten "B's" took away what should have been a beautiful awed by nature day. Makes me sad. I hope one day you do return and perhaps you can build a much nicer memory.

You and your husband should be so proud of your instincts too.

Yes it was on the US side, as you leave the Maid of the Mist boat. Lower level, before getting onto elevators taking you up to street level. As we drove away I noticed so many families just walking casually along the sidewalks, some with several children each. Too many for each parent to hold onto. I got even more worried then but certainly could shout out the window - hold onto your kids tight.

Someday we will replace this memory with a good one of the Falls. My husband went as a child and we have very old home movies of that trip. But again as we all watch even those old movies, my kids still look at me and sigh.

I didn't think my husband's radar would be up too that day, but he impressed me! He knew the situation wasn't right. Looking back I have asked myself a hundred times why I didn't seek another adult's help, why did I remain so polite to these men? The whole encounter took no longer than 5 minutes but it was a very scary 5 minutes!

I was glad to cross into Canada, after my husband talked me into continuing on. I relaxed a few days later. Took awhile but in time I finally did.
