Question on East Atlantic Wave.....

#1 Postby Johnny » Tue Aug 17, 2004 12:10 pm

Will this one be caught up and out to sea or will it keep marching westward toward the islands? Thanks.

The trough picking up Danielle is more than 12 degrees away (in latitude) and it has stopped digging so it will not pick up the wave. If anything, it will slow the easterlies down and allow the wave to move more slowly than those of the past few weeks. Also, it is not as organized as Danielle was, so the lack of rotation won't help it turn to the right of the mean flow. It's not to say another trough won't snatch it up, but this one most likely won't. It definitely has to be watched, and I imagine with this flare up of conveciton, it will start being picked up by the models (The GFS does already).

Do you think it is the cluster of showers is the area that might develp or the surge of moisture up ahead. Seems like those low latitudes in the S. Atlantic are the develpmental zones this yr. Do you know why? Usually they are up more north are not they.
