Re-enforced concrete structures demolished

#1 Postby Derek Ortt » Fri Aug 13, 2004 7:21 pm

In the landfall zone of Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte. It appears to be very bad and so far appears to have been primarily a wind event (although no reports from the barrier islands)

The early reports are not good. There was a caller from Sanibel Island here on one of the local stations that said the island was devastated.....

It was such a beautiful island! :(

I remember this restaurant/bar we went to called the Jacaranda. My friends and I really loved it there.

How did Marco Island fare? I've gone there on vacations before (last one was in 2000). It's like a paradise. I hope no serious damage there.

My parents suffered damage to their home as well. An object went through their master bedroom sliding glass door. It then slammed into the interior wall. The 50 ft. mast of their sailboat was snapped off as well. They also had their 500 lb fountain knocked apart. They only lost a few shingles, though. A house two doors down is demolished. Every power pole on Edgewater Dr is down. Severe structural damage has occured on nearly every home that surrounds them for blocks.

Have heard reports of a 15 foot storm surge at Sanibel Island and there have been rumors on CNN of "massive casualties"

Derek... I have heard those some kinds of "rumors" about Captiva Island as well. Let's hope they aren't true.
